Acorn Dent Repair · the quick answers

Everything you’d ask Mike, answered.

  • What is this?
    Fall acorn clusters

Oak trees drop acorns by the hundreds — dozens of small round dents across a hood or roof, a lot like light hail.

  • How is it priced?
    Like hail — by count

A dent-count matrix, not per dent. Photos get you the band and a written number within 24–48 hours.

  • Does insurance cover it?
    Comprehensive does

Falling-object damage is a comp claim — out-of-pocket is just your deductible, no rate hike.

  • Will it look factory?
    No paint, no filler

Paintless across the whole panel — your factory finish stays factory.

  • How fast?
    Scheduled, 1–2 days

Cluster jobs are booked in advance; most are a day or two on the car.

"Acorns aren't random — there are about a dozen Lehigh Valley streets where I'll see four cars from the same block in the same week each fall.

Acorn season in the Valley

Lehigh Valley oaks dent more cars than you’d think.

From September into November, the Valley's old oaks drop acorns by the hundreds. Park under one and you get dozens of small round dents — and it reads almost exactly like light hail.

  1. Oak country

Older Lehigh Valley neighborhoods are full of mature oaks. A car left under one from September into November takes a cluster of small dents across the hood and roof.

  2. Reads like light hail

Shallow, round, paint intact — textbook PDR. Priced off a dent-count band, not per dent, so a hood of dimples isn’t a hood of line items.

  3. Comprehensive, if you file

A falling-object claim is comprehensive, like hail — your out-of-pocket is just the deductible. Often it’s a cash job under the deductible; Mike tells you which after a photo.

Why are acorn dents such a big problem in the Lehigh Valley?

Pennsylvania is oak country. Northern red oak, white oak, and black oak fill the older neighborhoods of Bethlehem, Allentown, Emmaus, Macungie, and Coopersburg — the trees most likely to drop acorns onto a parked car. A mature oak can produce 10,000+ acorns in a heavy mast year. Drop a dense acorn from 40 feet onto a hood and you get a clean dimple — no paint cracking, no metal tear, just a perfect PDR candidate. We see hundreds every fall.

When is acorn season in Pennsylvania?

Mid-September through early November in most years. 2025 was a heavy mast year for the Lehigh Valley — local arborists tracked unusually high acorn yield from August forward. If you parked under an oak between Labor Day and Halloween, your hood and roof are likely the target. Some trees drop sporadically into December.

Will my insurance cover acorn dent damage?

Yes, almost always — under your comprehensive (not collision) coverage. Acorns falling from trees count as a 'falling object' incident, the same insurance category as hail. Comp claims do not raise rates the way at-fault claims do. Send me photos and I'll tell you whether to file based on dent count vs. your deductible. Most acorn jobs land somewhere between full out-of-pocket (5–10 small dings) and comp-claim worth (20+ dings, full hood + roof coverage).

How is acorn damage different from hail damage?

Acorn dents are typically larger than hail dents (acorns are heavier than hailstones their size) and clustered on horizontal surfaces — hood, roof, trunk lid. Hail spreads across vertical panels too because of wind. Both are PDR-perfect: clean dimples, no paint failure, no metal tear. The repair process is identical. The pricing is also identical, just based on dent count.

How much does acorn dent repair cost?

Single ding: $125. Light cluster (5–10 dings on one panel): $300–500. Heavy coverage (20+ dings across hood and roof): $700–1,400 or insurance comp claim with deductible only. Aluminum hoods (BMW, Audi, Tesla, F-150) cost about 1.4x. I quote in writing before I start — the number you see is the number you pay.

Can you fix acorn dents on aluminum panels?

Yes — aluminum just takes longer per dent because the metal memory works differently. Most luxury vehicles (BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Tesla, modern F-150) have aluminum hoods. I'm ARC-Master rated for aluminum and bill it at the standard 1.4x matrix. No surprise charges, no panel replacement.

My car was under an oak tree all season — should I just let it sit?

No. Even paintless damage gets harder to fix the longer it sits — sun-baked metal hardens, the panel 'remembers' the new shape, and tools have less working room. Six-month-old dents take 30% longer than fresh ones. Your factory finish also continues to depreciate while damage stays visible. Send a photo today and you'll have a written quote within 24–48 hours.

Do you do mobile acorn dent repair?

For under 10 dents, yes — driveway, office lot, dealership. For 20+ dents on hood and roof, I usually want the car back at the Bethlehem shop where the controlled lighting reveals every drop. Send photos and I'll tell you which makes sense.

A note from Mike
If your dent isn't paintless, I'll tell you on the spot — for free — and point you to a body shop I trust. The honest answer beats a half-fixed panel every time.
